Russia area known as “Golden Ring” is a group of cities that are located around Moscow. It is, in most cases, cities with a rich history, important monuments and ancient churches. One is the city of Sergiev Posad.

Sergiev Posad is, today, an important industrial center. But its popularity due more to one of its oldest buildings: the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius. This historic monastery consists of a set of medieval buildings that are among the most impressive buildings in Russia for its beauty.

The monastery owes its name to a native monk from the neighboring city of Rostov who lived in the fourteenth century. San Sergio, just the name of the monk, built the imposing building with his supporters and faithful, who became inspiration for the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin.

The Monastery owes its historical importance to having played a role of prominence in very important moments in the history of the country.

It is surrounded by high walls, and this condition made him great strength that served in the past to repel foreign invasions on more than one occasion. Once October Revolution in 1917, the new authorities in charge, ordered the closure of the convent and turned it into a museum. Its function as a monastery would be restored after the Second World War.

The architectural wealth of the complex of buildings that compose it constitutes a kind of catalog of the exhibition of the history of Russian ecclesiastical architecture. The Church of the Holy Trinity, built in 1442, is the oldest building of the complex. Then we find the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, which dates from 1476, and the Church of the Assumption is most extensive. Built with the Moscow baroque style, the Church of St. Sergius is the main building of the complex. Finally, we find the bell, faithful representative of the architecture of the eighteenth century. Most campaigns of this important historical monument were destroyed by the Bolsheviks.
